In the fall, the Alpilles come alive with the rhythm of migration
In the fall, the skies over the Alpilles become the setting for a great journey. Birds leave their breeding grounds to head for milder regions, where they will find the resources they need to survive the winter. This seasonal movement, known as post-breeding migration, continues through November and generally peaks in October.
In the Alpilles, open landscapes, hedgerows, and farmland offer prime vantage points. The Alpilles Regional Nature Park notes, in particular, that in Petite Crau, near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, the fall migration provides opportunities to observe passerines—such as the rock thrush and the yellow wagtail—as well as numerous birds of prey.
This time of year reminds us just how essential landscapes and natural habitats are to all living things. By keeping an eye out for movement in the sky and around natural areas, everyone can enjoy this unobtrusive spectacle, while taking care not to disturb the wildlife.
At the Servanes Golf Course, in the heart of the Alpilles, fall is also an invitation to take the time to observe the nature that accompanies every round of golf.
